Since attending Otakon in August, this past month has been quite hectic with me making a quick trip to Japan just for Animelo Summer Live 2017 -THE CARD- followed by J-Pop Summit in San Francisco. As a result, I haven’t really had a chance to gather my thoughts to put together a full set of posts I’ve been meaning to write. While the last two weeks have been quieter, it looks like things will be picking up again starting with this weekend so I figured I should give a lay of the land.
Upcoming events include:
- Anime Weekend Atlanta
- No Game No Life Zero Movie
- Koe no Katachi (A Silent Voice)
- Aqours 2nd Live Happy Party Train Tour x 3
- Fall 2017 Anime Season Kickoff
Anime Weekend Atlanta is mostly for Luna Haruna and bless4 having missed both of them at Kawaii Kon earlier in the year. Luckily the conventions are ran by the same people so that gave me a second chance to seem this year. The rest is mostly icing on the cake.
No Game No Life Zero is because I missed out on LA Anime Film Festival so this will likely be the last chance before having to wait for the bluray. Similar for A Silent Voice where I only managed to watch half at Anime Expo 2017 before I had to jump for a Yui Horie panel. Was a solid movie up until when I left so looking forward to finishing it.
As for Aqours and why/how I am watching it 3 times, I am (surprisingly) not traveling to Saitama for the event and instead doing back to back delayed showings in the US followed by another showing on a separate weekend. Am I crazy? Perhaps, but as they say, always do it for best girl!
And of course with the beginning of October around that corner, that means we are due for a new season of anime. Last I checked, it looks like there are about 50 new titles set to air in Japan, excluding movies and those released only on DVD and Blurays. Significantly less than the crazy 70+ titles from last fall and significantly more concentrated on sequels and 2nd seasons this time around. Of course more doesn’t always mean better and the quality of titles look slightly better than what we have been given over the last couple seasons. Not to mention that there are 3 core idol titles premiering: Love Live! Sunshine!! 2nd Season, The iDOLM@STER -Side M-, and Wake Up, Girls! Shin Sho
And with September coming to a close, it means end of year planning is well under way as well with the following events currently on my radar/attempting to secure tickets in no particular order
- Inori Minase 1st Live
- fripSide 2017-2018 Live Tour “crossroads”
- Anime Festival Asia Singapore
- Animax Musix Yokohama
- Pile Live at Budokan featuring Love Live!
- GARNiDELiA Stellacage Live Tour 2017
- Wake Up, Girls! in Shanghai
- Aqours Club Fan Meeting and Live
- Anime NYC + Anisong World Matsuri featuring Chihiro Yonekura, Yoko Ishida, and TRUE
Highest on my list is likely Inori Minase’s live given that this will be her first opportunity to perform solo for a full live. It was originally planned for last year but got cancelled due to “various circumstances.” With a small venue, this can easily sell out so I’m not setting my hopes too high at this point.
The next highest would be AFA Singapore and Animax Yokohama given their proximity in timing as well as the US is on holiday making it easy to take time off from work and wota the weekend and holiday away. The rest of the events is really just gravy depending on scheduling.
